SALEM, Ore. – The 2018 PDL season finished with a tough 2-1 loss on Wednesday night to the Victoria Highlanders FC for the Timbers U23s, as despite scoring first, it was not enough in the one-goal defeat.

Timur Zhividze got things going in the seventh minute for the Timbers U23s when he buried a penalty-kick opportunity to put the home side up, 1-0.

The Highlanders responded immediately, however, as it was Blair Sturrock who capitalized on a mistake in the back from the Timbers U23s, one-timing his shot into the net in the ninth minute.

Later on in the first half, Thomas Shores laced his shot past the goalkeeper in the 37th minute to put the visitors up 2-1.

That is how the score would stay for the remainder of the contest, resulting in the 2-1 defeat for the Timbers U23s. Both sides racked up a number of shots on the evening, with Victoria holding the slight edge over the Timbers, 20-15.

For the Timbers U23s, Zhividze led the way with six shots individually.
