CALGARY, Alberta – The Timbers U23s fell into an early hole on Friday night north of the border, and ultimately it was a hole that the squad could not climb out of, falling to Calgary Foothills FC, 3-1.

“Credit to Foothills FC for being the better side tonight,” said Timbers U23 head coach Aaron Lewis. “They adjusted to the style of play faster than we did in the first half and put us in a significant hole to climb out of. We were pleased with our response in the second half and feel good about what we feel we can do on Sunday.”

After three goals in the first 25 minutes, the Timbers U23s got on the board in the 45th minute of play when Siad Haji curled a shot into the top-right corner of the goal, giving the visitors some hope.

That would be all the Timbers U23s would get, however, resulting in the two-goal defeat.

The result puts the Timbers in a spot needing to get a positive result on Sunday against Calgary Foothills FC in a rematch. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
