SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Timbers U23s fell short on Friday night at Lane United FC, 3-2. The match marked the end of a five-game road trip to begin the 2018 PDL campaign for the Timbers U23s.

A couple of lapses defensively in the first 45 minutes led to the Timbers U23s trailing at the halftime break, 2-0.

Right out of the gate, however, the squad rallied, scoring a goal right away on a volley from inside of the six-yard box. Siad Haji then tied the game with 30 minutes left in regulation when he converted a penalty-kick opportunity, making it 2-2.

A giveaway in the middle of the park in the 70th minute, however, led to a transition goal for Lane United FC, and that play ultimately proved to be the difference in the 3-2 loss for the road side.

The Timbers U23s finally return to Salem for the first time in nearly a month, as the squad will open its 2018 home PDL campaign when the Sounders U23s come to town on Tuesday night, June 5. Kickoff at McCulloch Stadium is slated for 6:30 p.m.
