SALEM, Ore. – While playing in front of a crowd of more than 1,100, the Timbers U23 squad came from behind on two occasions on Monday night en route to earning a valuable point in a 2-2 draw against Lane United FC.

“It was an exciting match tonight to be a part of,” said Timbers U23 head coach Aaron Lewis. “I thought our guys responded well being down twice to get a valuable tie against a good Lane United team. We’ll need to do a better job of keeping Jordan Jones in front of us next go around, but I like the way our team is trending heading into an important road stretch.”

A miscommunication in the back in the 13th minute led to Lane United’s Jordan Jones pouncing on the Timbers U23 mistake and scoring to put the visitors up 1-0.

Showing resiliency, however, the home squad pressed hard late in the first stanza and found the goal it was looking for as Zeron Sewell scored on what was the final play of the first 45 minutes, sending the game tied 1-1 into the locker rooms.

Jordan Jones made it a 2-1 lead for Lane United early on in the second half, but once again, the Timbers U23s had the response. Knowing they needed a goal, the U23s pressed in search of a score, and Timur Zhividze buried the equalizer late in the waning moments of the match for the Timbers U23s, tying the contest at 2-2.

That is how the match would end, with both sides earning a point in the draw.

The Timbers U23s (1-1-1) take to the road this weekend for a game on Friday up north in Canada against the TSS FC Rovers. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
