TIMBERS U23 TAKEDOWN TSS ROVERS 5-2

SALEM, Ore. — Timbers U23 defeat the Vancouver TSS Rovers in an exciting 5-2 match.

“This group has got points in four of their last six matches, and today put together their best offensive performance of the season,” said head coach, Aaron Lewis.

It did not take long in the match for the Timbers to establish dominance and put pressure on the TSS Rovers. Timur Zhividze found himself in the box multiple times and was able to draw a PK in the 16’ and go up 1-0.

The Timbers created multiple chances following the first goal, but TSS was able to clear away any look. In the first minute of stoppage time, the Rovers were able to draw out goalkeeper Mario Sequeira and score the equalizer. What looked like a promising tie at the half, was quickly changed when Berti Fourier found the back of the net, scoring off the hands of the Rover’s goalkeeper. The Timbers took a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.

The second half was led by Timur Zhividze scoring a banger in the 51st minute to give the team a 3-1 lead. In the 68th minute, Timur Zhividze was able to complete the hat trick and score again, sending the ball straight past the TSS defense.

In the 78th minute, Berti Fourier added his second goal of the afternoon in typical Berti fashion, dribbling past three defenders in the box to send the Timbers up 5-1.

An unlucky spot in the box for the Timbers allowed a PK for the Rovers, who were able to add one in the 90th minute. Stoppage time concluded and the Timbers U23 held the victory at 5-2.

“Credit to the guys for understanding what was available on the day and taking advantage of it. We’ll look forward to getting right back at it this week as we look to add to our point level.”

The Timbers U23 will return home this weekend, June 28 against the Victoria Highlanders FC.
