Nearly 400 fans gather Wednesday night to watch the Timbers U23 takedown TFA U23.

SALEM, Ore. — Timbers U23 rallied late in the second half to pull off a 1-0 victory against the TFA U23 squad from Albany, Ore.

It was another beautiful, sunny evening in Salem where almost 400 fans were able to enjoy an intense matchup between the two squads. The Fanzone presented by Harvey Realty was filled with kids lining up to play dart ball while the beer garden and taco truck kept fans coming back. Fans were kept on edge almost all game until the 85’ when a goal was finally scored.

The Timbers U23 squad held the majority of the games possession, breaking down and putting pressure on TFA’s defense. TFA  fought back late in the first half, forcing goalkeeper Austin Rogers to make a number of saves.

Tied 0-0 at the half, the Timbers U23 started the final 45’ with pressure on again. Several opportunities arose for the team to score, but TFA’s defense was able to continue to protect the goal. In the 85’, pressure finally broke when Lucas Bueno was able to shift around the defense and find the back of the net.

The final preseason match of the year will be Saturday, May 10th at 7:00 p.m. vs Snohomish County FC at the Capital FC Complex. The Timbers U23 USL League Two season will officially kick off May 17th with a roadtrip to play TSS FC Rovers in Canada.
