SALEM, Ore. — A 2-1 victory over the Steelheads of Snohomish County FC lifts the Timbers U23 to a 3-0 preseason record.

Tonight, the squads lineup added a mix of new and old faces. Third year returner, Rey Ortiz, made his season debut making a huge impact on the field recording two assists. Ortiz was accompanied by three new players, Roko Prsa (University of Massachusetts Lowell), Martin Ngoh, and Simon Fitch (both from VCU).

It took no time for the new players to fit into the teams motion. In the 4th minute, Ortiz fed the ball perfectly to Ngoh who scored his first goal of the year to give the Timbers U23 an early 1-0 lead. Come the 42nd minute, Ortiz was back at it again, this time serving the ball to Timur Zhividze who was able to find the back of the net.

Shortly after the second half started, the Steelheads were able to put pressure on and add one to the scoreboard in the 48th minute. Snohomish kept pressures high, yet the Timbers U23 were able to stand their ground and control the rest of the game.

“We have to keep building,” said head coach, Aaron Lewis. “To get three wins while we’re still sorting things out is a good start for us. I’m looking forward to getting to know these players coming in.”

The Timbers U23 USL League Two season will officially kick off May 17th with a roadtrip to play TSS FC Rovers in Canada. The squad will return home for their first match at McCulloch Stadium on May 24th.
