EUGENE, Ore. — The Timbers U23 squad continues to improve over the course of the 2019 campaign by drawing a 1-1 tie against Lane United FC.

“What we are seeing is growth,” stated head coach, Aaron Lewis. “Our scores continue to improve after each matchup. Every game we are improving from the last, moving up throughout the season.”

Friday nights match was a fierce battle where the Timbers found themselves at war with the back of the net. Early on in the first half, a miscommunication in the backline let Lane take a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute. In the 27th minute, the Timbers pressure offense forced Lane to make a mistake and add an own goal after a Timbers throw in to tie the match.

The following 60 minutes of the match left both teams scoreless. The Timbers created countless opportunities, sending the ball pinging off the crossbar time after time. Lane goalkeeper made a handful of saves, eliminating any shot the Timbers took.

Timbers U23 look to finish their 2019 campaign on the road against the Seattle Sounders U23. The USL League Two Northwest Division turns into another “fight to the finish” playoff race. Calgary Foothills FC the Sounders FC U23 both look for wins in Sunday’s matchups to earn a playoff berth.
