SALEM, Ore. – The Timbers U23s announce the first wave of returners from last year’s team who are headed back to Salem for the 2019 USL League Two season. Rey Ortiz and Gio Magana-Rivera from University of Portland are set to be back with the Timbers U23 squad, pending league approval.

Ortiz and Magana-Rivera have both been key pieces for the team the past two seasons, including the 2017 season where they won the Northwest Division Championship. The two also work as a dynamic duo up in Portland for the Pilots, where they helped lead the team to the second round of the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2009.

In the last 2018 PDL top 50 prospects list, Ortiz was spotted in the top 10.  He looks to build on that success this upcoming 2019 season.
