SALEM, Ore. -- Timbers U23 takedown TSS Rovers 6-0 in their last home match of the season.
Prior to the game, the stands were filled with stuffed animals lined to be tossed after the first Timbers goal and donated to the Liberty House and children in crisis. Christo Michaelson was quick to give the fans what they wanted in the 15th minute with a beautiful header to the back of the net.
Momentum stayed with the Timbers as Timur Zhividze sent his first goal of the afternoon into the top left corner in the 23rd minute. A few plays later, Berti Fourrier chipped one in making it 3-0 in the 30th minute.
TSS Rovers were given a shot in the 37th minute to make a dent in the Timbers lead but were unable to capitalize. In the 39th minute, the Timbers created another opportunity with Timur Zhividze who was able to send it, scoring his second goal of the game and putting the Timbers U23 up 4-0.
The Rovers came out with more energy in the second half forcing goalkeeper Mario Sequeira to make back to back saves. A late second half sub in the backline for the Timbers brought newcomer Allando Brown onto the pitch. Brown, in the 76th minute made his debut memorable with an easy goal past the TSS defense to give the Timbers the 5-0 lead.
Come the 83rd minute, Timur Zhividze decided that two goals was not enough and went for the hat trick. A chip right over the goalkeepers slide was enough for the hat trick and seal the deal for a 6-0 victory.
“We wanted to get the ball moving and see if we could move them around and find pockets.” stated head coach, Aaron Lewis. ‘The guys really did a good job of threatening behind and then taking advantage when they had space in front. This was our most complete performance of the year and we are looking forward to finishing strong.”
