SALEM, Ore – Willy Akio scored a volley in the 87th minute on Sunday afternoon, and that goal proved to be the difference in a 1-0 win for Calgary Foothills FC over the Timbers U23s.

The two sides were scoreless through the first 45 minutes, with both teams creating some good opportunities, but both were unable to find the back of the net.

Timur Zhividze ripped a free kick midway through the second half for the Timbers U23s, but a good save from Marco Carducci kept the match scoreless.

Then in the 87th minute of play, Carlos Patino whipped in a beautiful free kick to the back post, finding Akio who volleyed in his shot to the back of the net. The goal proved to be the game-winner.

The Timbers U23s will play their final match of the 2018 season on Wednesday night when they host Victoria Highlanders FC. Kickoff at McCulloch Stadium is slated for 6:30 p.m.
