Timbers U23s Announce Return of Zeron Sewell, Along with Four VCU Newcomers

SALEM, Ore. – The Timbers U23s announced on Thursday that Zeron Sewell, who was a standout on the 2017 Timbers U23 squad, would be returning to play for the team this summer in Salem after a successful fall season with Virginia Commonwealth University. Along with Sewell, four other VCU players will accompany Sewell on this year’s Timbers U23 squad.

Another wave of returners will be announced soon, with players from the 2017 Timbers U23 PDL Division Championship team set to come back to Salem in 2018.

Sewell, who was an integral piece of the Timbers U23 backline in 2017, will look to once again make an impact with the team in 2018 following his freshman year at VCU. Sewell and VCU advanced to the Second Round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Joining Sewell in coming to the west coast this summer to play for the Timbers U23s are the following:

– Ryo Shimazaki – D – Kawasaki, Japan (Part of Japan’s U17 National Pool)
– Ulrik Edvarsen – D – Bergen, Norway (Member of U18 Norwegian National Team)
– Mario Sequeira – GK – San Jose, Costa Rica (Member of U20 Costa Rican National Team & made appearances with Saprissa First Team)
– Siad Haji – F – Manchester, New Hampshire (Member of U15, U17, U19 U.S. National Teams)
