Timbers U23 Team Announces Hiring of Front Office Staff

SALEM, Ore. – Following the recent announcement of the Timbers U23 relocation to Oregon’s state capital of Salem, the Timbers U23 announced the hiring of its front office staff on Wednesday afternoon, naming Lloyd Fobi as the Managing Director of the team and Danny Day as the Director of Media Relations.

“We feel Lloyd and Danny will help us deliver a highly professional U23 program that represents the Timbers name well in Salem,” said Capital FC Timbers Executive Director, Collin Box. “Lloyd was instrumental in our original partnership with the Timbers back in 2013, and he will be a key player going forward. Additionally, the Director of Media Relations position was top priority for us. We’re excited to have Danny, who has a proven track record, join our team.”

As the Managing Director of the Timbers U23 team, Fobi will oversee the day-to-day operations of the team and is in charge of all player acquisitions. He will work with the entire coaching staff in order to ensure successful team operations, while also working with the game day staff to help create the one of the best game-day experiences in the PDL. In addition, Fobi will coordinate closely with the Timbers Academy and T2 on a daily basis to cultivate the cohesive unit.

Fobi is currently the head men’s soccer coach at Willamette University, and he also holds his MBA from Willamette University. Fobi served as the Programs Chair on the Board of Directors for Capital FC Timbers from 2012-2014. As a collegiate soccer player, Fobi competed for Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore., where he played on two OSU teams that were nationally ranked (2003, 2005), and he helped the Beavers reach the NCAA Tournament in 2003.

Prior to becoming the head coach at Willamette, Fobi was an assistant coach for the Corban University men’s soccer program for 1.5 years. Additionally, he has coached with the Oregon Olympic Development Program (ODP) and with Capital Futbol Club for several years, leading multiple teams to State Championships and USYS Region IV Regional Tournaments.

Day joins the Timbers U23 Staff as the Director of Media Relations and will oversee all website content for TimbersU23.com, as well as all social media content via the Timbers U23 social media feeds on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. In addition, Day will handle all game day duties at Timbers U23 home games and will oversee all Timbers U23 statistics.

Day currently serves as the Sports Information Director at Corban University, and during his nearly three years at Corban, he’s garnered a number of conference and national awards. Most recently, he was honored as the 2015-16 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Sports Information Director of the Year. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) then honored Day with CorbanWarriors.com being named the No. 1 athletic website in the NAIA for the 2015-16 school year.

Prior to being hired at Corban in June 2014, Day served as the Sports Information Graduate Assistant at the University of Redlands for two years. At Redlands, he earned his Master of Arts in Management through the School of Business, graduating in April 2014. Before earning his graduate degree, Day was an All-Region and All-Conference soccer player at Redlands, leading his team to the NCAA Round of 16 in 2011 to go with three conference championships in four years.

The Timbers U23 will announce the team’s head coach on Monday, February 13. Stay tuned at TimbersU23.com for further information about upcoming tryouts and schedule.
