SALEM, Ore. – The PDL announced on Thursday that Timbers U23 Executive Director Collin Box has been named to the PDL Expansion Committee. Box, who served as one of the key pieces in bringing the Timbers U23s to Salem in 2017, joins the PDL Expansion Committee while continuing to lead the Timbers U23s as the Executive Director.

The mission of the PDL Expansion Committee is to create a robust network of leaders that helps to enhance the league ownership and footprint. The expansion committee will serve to support the league in key areas surrounding the addition of new ownerships.

“It is an honor to be recognized for the success of the team so early in our move to Salem,” said Box. “This is really a testament to the hard work of our staff and the support we’ve received from our community. People around the league are noticing that there is something special happening with soccer in Salem.”

Box, who is also the Executive Director of the Capital FC Timbers, has helped to grow CFC’s programs, both in numbers and in quality. He helped guide the program to partner with the Portland Timbers as a Portland Timbers Alliance Club in 2013, and the club also became a US Soccer Development Academy member, an honor given to a handful of clubs who demonstrate professional organization and a dedication to player development.

On top of Box’s success with CFC as the Executive Director since 2011, he also has seen the Timbers U23s experience a great deal of success on the field during the 2017 campaign. With crowds of more than 1,000 at McCulloch Stadium becoming a common occurrence during the 2017 Timbers U23 season, the Timbers U23s went from finishing in last place the year prior to Box taking over to now earning a playoff berth as of Wednesday night.

Because of the success Box has seen at both the youth soccer level and Timbers U23 level, he has been tabbed the Divisional Leader for Youth Organization for the PDL. Box will help to leverage industry relationships and involvement to identify prospective new owners, highlight important league movements and overall industry changes, will serve as a knowledge resource for prospective owners, and help highlight unique and powerful tools that aid in the onboarding process of new owners.

The Timbers U23s are back in action on Sunday evening for the final regular-season contest at Lane United FC. Depending on Calgary’s result on Sunday afternoon, the Timbers could still be playing for a shot at the division title and the opportunity host the playoff game next week.
